Summer Outdoor Bird Care

Summer Outdoor bird care #summer #outdoor #bird
It is that time of year when the outdoor birds are back! Here are some tips to help the birds in your area!
1. Provide bird feeders and suet cakes. That way you attract a variety of birds. Woodpeckers love the suet cakes!
2. Hang your bird feeders up high enough so cats and dogs can't get the birds! You don't want to just provide bait. lol
3. Provide bird houses for nesting but again hang out of the way of dogs and cats.
4. After hard rains check and make sure the bird seed hasn't gotten wet because it will mold. If it has remove it and get fresh.
5. Provide a bird bath and keep the water fresh.
6. If possible turn off outdoor lights at night. This is because night time flying birds can become disorientated and fly into windows.

and my last tip (I used to run a parrot rescue) has to do with your pet birds. DO NOT take them outside without a harness or being in a cage. If even a slight breeze comes along they can fly away because they don't fly directionally by flapping but by air currents. So if a breeze catches them they may not even mean to go but off they go. The most common thing I heard was "Well it never happened before" and my response was - it only takes once.
